Patti Dunham and Gary Haberman
blend two unique and individual talents into one extraordinary sound. Their
years of experience on the professional music scene have led them into a
rich variety of musical settings. The two began working as a duo when Michael
Kelly, then owner of the prestigious Dar Tiffany resturant in Greenvale
NY, needed a jazz group for the opening of an art exhibit. That one evening
engagement turned into a seven month frun as jazz aficionados and critics
throughout the metropolitan area returned again and again to enjoy this
pair extrordinare.
Early in Patti Dunham's career as a jazz and swing vocalist, she
sang with the Larry Elgart Big Band, and was featured on several of Elgart's
recordings. She appeared as a singer in Woody Allen's "Crimes &
Misdemeanors," and was the featured soloist with pianist Dick Hyman
at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Jonathan Schwartz has presented her as
a guest artist on the WNEW radio program "New York Tonight," and
she has brought her own jazz ensembles into many of New York's premier jazz
clubs. Patti's skill and range as a classically trained soprano brought
her to the attention of Phillip Glass; she joined several of his international
tours and sings on recordings of his works.
Gary Haberman is active not only as a performer, but as a composer,
arranger, orchestrator, and producer. As an accomplished pianist and nationally
acclaimed synthesist, he has performed with Frank Sinatra, Vic Damone, Dihann
Caroll, the Late Sammy Davis Jr., Gerry Mulligan, and Jon Hendricks, among
others. Gary has also performed on several recordings including the Grammy
award winning "Saturday Night Fever" album, "Discosymphony",
"A Fifth of Beethoven", and "Repertoire." He has composed
, arranged, and produced hundreds of songs for educational publishers such
as Simon & Schuster, McMillian McGraw Hill, Random House, and Scholastic.
Gary's film and video composing and producing credits include two NBC movie
specials as well as a multitude of mini documentaries, biographical sketches,
animated featurettes, pictoral soundscapes, and music videos. He brings
all these skills to the jazz duo setting by arranging and orchestrating
the music with the assistance of computer generated instrumental arrangements.
This gives both Patti and Gary the opportunity to perform with an unlimited
palate of musical backgrounds, ranging from solo piano to full orchestra.
This, in combination with Gary's incomparable vocal arrangements and Patti's
brillant vocalise, provides the ingredients for an unforgettable musical
evening of mainstream and contemporary jazz.
Patti Dunham and Gary Haberman : two exceptional performers
whose sound is truly two of a mind and one of a kind.
